Some Odds And Ends That We Forgot To Share…

Mel and I are always on the hunt for cool things and sometimes we forget to share our finds with our readers. We wanted to take a quick minute to share some items that I don’t think we have ever shared before. The first item is this marvelous Moss lamp that we found in a Las Vegas antique store.

Please ignore the upside down lampshade

We had never seen this style Moss lamp before. Moss made radio lamps, clock lamps, aquarium lamps and so many other fantastic kinds of lamps. Though the lamps shade is not original it works for now. I love that aqua and gold figure, so art deco!

When we finally got back from Vegas we consulted our Schiffer “Moss Lamps Lighting The 50’s” reference book. We couldn’t find it in the book! I think that is a good thing, maybe a one off?

While in Vegas we also snagged this guy. This is a working 50’s Kenmore fan and I love the grey and aqua color scheme on it.

Next is this atomic pink fiberglass lamp with hanging planter!

We parked this lamp next to our pink frieze butterfly chair.

I found this little gem in an antique shop in San Jose California. It was hidden behind a bunch of vintage linens. When I pulled the linens back I was pleasantly surprised to find this pink 1950’s Motorola model 56L3A portable tube radio.

I found these 1940’s glass coasters on Etsy. Though they may not be politically correct they are still cool.

We have had our Grand Server for a while now and I wanted to stock the bar inside of it. I came across one of these Arrow decanters online and loved the imagery. I researched them and saw they made a few different styles. Here are some photos of the front and back of the six we acquired…

Now comes the fun part, going out and buying all the liquor to fill them.

Melody and I were at the Alameda Antique Fair in the bay and we ran into our friend Petra. We din’t manage to find a lot that day. While talking to Petra she mentioned that she had come into possession of some really cool Capri lamp shades she wanted to sell. She showed us some photos and we said YES!!!

These shades are pretty large and so cool.

These take our 1951 Regular bullfighter lamps to a whole new level!

These shades help transform our room with warm light and unique styling.

Melody and I have had this Paul Frankl floor lamp for a long time now, but we couldn’t remember if we ever shared it with you. This thing is over the top atomic. When I look at it I think of a cool cat wearing a zoot suit. We have two matching table lamps as well but I think we blogged about them already, here they are anyway.

Well, I think that is all for now. I hope you enjoyed it!

Atomic Saucer Table Lamps

Atomic Saucer Table Lamps

IMG_8776.JPGMel and I were searching for some cool lamps for our guest bedroom and came across these at a local antique store. These are still dusty and need a good cleaning and possible rewire.

IMG_8773I really dig the way the light is thrown by these lamps. It lights by reflecting light off of the white underpart of the shade.

IMG_8778I am not sure what my plans are for this set. I was thinking of taking them apart and powder coating them two different colors. I would do the base a different color than the shade.

I could see these being used in an office setting or a doctors office.

IMG_8770We planned on finding a nice Reglor lamp set or Continental Art Company lamps but when we saw these there was no looking back.

We plan to have these set on the two end tables of the Sculpted Maple set we recently picked up.

Fantastic Moss Lamp Trade

IMG_5473One day Mel and I were in the garage of our new home and a friendly face drove up and stopped right in front of our house. It was our friend Tom who Mel and I originally met at The Antique Company in Sacramento. Tom is such a socialite and he was soo eager to see the home we had just moved into. While we were showing him around he saw our oak leaf floor lamp.

When Tom saw this lamp he froze, turned to us and said, “I have the matching table lamps to that oak leaf floor lamp”. When he got home he texted over pics of the table lamps.

Tom suggested that we trade our floor lamp to complete his set for a Moss floor lamp he had. We were a little skeptical and also lamp heavy so we said we’d consider the trade after seeing his Moss lamp. Once he brought the Moss lamp over Mel and I were sold!

IMG_5461The lamp shade on this lamp is fantastic! The lamp has these cool Lucite rods that flank the brass center. The black bowl in the middle is a planter. This piece makes quite a statement in the room.

This shade has a great art deco pattern and is in amazing shape.

IMG_5465 This lamp really goes well with the dancing Carlo of Hollywood pieces behind it.

IMG_5468 This lamp will be a great companion to our pink butterfly frieze chair. We are so grateful to Tom for his trade and I think both parties are happy with the exchange.

Heifetz Rotaflex Pendant Lights

IMG_6230

Mel and I were out antiquing and we came across this set of large Rotaflex lights made by Heifetz.  Once we laid our eyes on these we knew they must be ours.

IMG_6224

These lights are right out of the Jetsons.  These would look great in any mid century style home or decor.  We put these on layaway and will have them soon.  Speaking of layaway, it is a great way to get something that you want when you may not have the funds all at once.  Usually you have to put a third down and have 3 months to pay it off with no fees or interest.  It is a valuable tool when you are out shopping, so don’t be afraid to use it.  Midway Antique Mall where we have two booths also offers layaway, so keep that in mind when visiting.

IMG_6227We are thinking that one of the sets will hang over out kitchen table and the other over our dining room table.  The colors on these are soo much better in person.  We are soo excited to eventually get these home and hung.  Here are some ads showcasing other lights they produced…

Do you need a new lamp shade for your retro lamp?

Mel and I were soo excited to get the Moss floor lamps we recently purchased. The problem that has plagued us before when we buy lamps without shades is finding ones that will work with the light. Mel and I were exposed to Meteor Lights when we purchased a couch from a nice couple in the bay awhile back. They said that this company was producing mid-century shades that looked great and were made in the same way they were originally produced. Meteor Lights designs and fabricates custom fiberglass drum lampshades, modern pendant light fixtures, and mod acrylic lamp bases in retro, atomic, and mid-century modern styles, bringing classic ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s Americana to your home or business. Our colorful drum and tiered fiberglass lampshades also look great with streamline modern, tiki, vintage western, googie, biomorphic, Danish Modern, and mid century-influenced contemporary lighting styles. These shades are completely customizable.

Love them all. This is a small sampling of the shades you can create.

Awesome!

Look at all the options!

You can even pick the lanyard color.

Once our shades arrive we will post a followup. Mel and I are so anxious to see the great work these folks do. If you need a shade then this is your place and the prices are really reasonable. Do yourself a favor and check out Meteor Lights.
