Hepcats Haven Fish Design New To Redbubble & Spoonflower!!!

I am in full swing designing as many cool graphics as I can come up with. The one design I wanted to pay tribute to was our original 1950’s atomic fish wallpaper we had in our pink bathroom of our old house. After days and days of trying to recreate it, I have finally finished.

Though it is not an exact copy, I think it captures the spirit of the original.

If you dig this and are interested in seeing the products this design can be printed on, head over to Redbubble.

You can also purchase fabric, wall paper, or gift wrap of this design on Spoonflower.

Hepcats Evolution

When we started our blog about 6 years ago, our focus was on sharing our mid century decor collection and restoration techniques. Over the years, we’ve evolved and became more diverse in our collection and what we are involved with. Because of this, Hepcat Restorations no longer represents who we are. We are now rebranding ourselves as Hepcats Haven. Hepcats Haven will showcase a broader time period of collecting and restoration of items from the 1940’s-1980’s.  We’ve expanded to photoshoot location booking and prop rentals.  However, we are no longer offering restoration services.

Thanks to all of you who have followed us through our many adventures and shared your thoughts. We hope you continue to join us in this new journey.

Panton Era Tufted Leather Tulip Base Club Chairs

bdsa

Mel and I saw these chairs on eBay a couple of months back and we bought them. They were in Salem Oregon. We shot up there over one weekend and snagged them while we were up there picking up a couch, chair and ottoman set.

These had some condition issues when we got them. There were some cracks in the base that I had to fill and paint.

The fabric is in fantastic condition for its age. I assume these were produced sometime in the 70’s.

I searched all over these pieces and could not find any makers mark. These are made of thick, hard plastic not fiberglass.

The cushions attach to the plastic shell with buttons.

I think it looks great next to our space age lamp/shelf and that large Letterman.

Vintage Chromcraft Couch, Chair, Ottoman and Tables

saf

Mel and I were contacted by our friend Tracy at m.a.r.k vintage who let us know about an available space age couch, chair and table set. We were so excited to hear this and I shot over early the next day to get them.

The couch, chair and ottoman are in good shape but I plan to recover them. The fiberglass on these pieces is thick and durable.

This is the coffee table, end table and planter that came with the set.

The fiberglass has the usual yellowing from being exposed to sunlight for some time.

Restoring the fiberglass is simple. All I have to do is light sand all the pieces once the upholstery is removed. After I sand everything,  I’ll need to wipe it down really well to remove any particulate. I plan to use the Rust-Olum white appliance paint to restore the fiberglass. I love this paint because it is durable and finishes well.

Surprisingly, there are no real issues with any of the fiberglass except the yellowing.

Our intention was to fix this set up for resale…BUT…you hardly ever see pieces like this, so we’ve decided to keep it……. for now.

We are thinking of doing our office in the Panton Era so these will fit right in.

Here is what the set looks like new.

It appears they also made a dinning set! Beam me up Scotty!

I’ve always thought this was hilarious!
