Amazing Bar with Frederick Weinberg Stools

As usual, I was cruising Craigslist and came across this set last night. I noticed it had been on Craigslist for a couple days, and I thought I would just check to see if they still had it.

I assumed since it had been on there for two days that someone would have snatched it. We got a call this morning from the owner who stated she still had it. We jumped in the car and shot on over.

The thing that drew us to this bar are the cut outs in the front. The owner said it used to have colored plexiglass that was lit from behind. She said it was amazing when it was lit.

This bar will need a 100 point restoration. Since the Formica is chipped, I plan to redo the formica in black. That will go better with the animal print vinyl instead of the faux marble top.

I also plan to replace the silverfish finish on the foot rest area with black formica.

I might have to reinforce the bottom as well.

The shelf is at an angle so the alcohol labels can face up towards you, cool idea!

This bar has this cool little ornament on the front with a small chain draped across the front.

I am pretty sure these are Frederick Weinberg from what I could research online.

These stools don’t match the bar very well with the animal pattern they have on them now. I will try to find a similar cheetah pattern to recover the seats in.

This bar and stool set is now my next project. I am excited to see how it turns out. We have a bar in our living room that will be put into the shop since we snagged this one.

We try to upgrade our collection as we go along. This bar will make someone very happy, I am sure. It has served us well. Below are the bars we have owned over the years.

This swanky diamond bar was so cool with it’s two tier top. It had such an atomic feel to it. This is now sold.

This bar is the ultra rare Expando bar. We sold it recently to a lady in L.A. She was so pleased to get it.

We sold this 1963 Tropical Sun Company tiki bar at our grand opening, it sold in less than an hour!

This Art Deco bar was fantastic! It reminded us of an early jukebox because of how the front corners lighted up when the door was opened. This is now sold.

This wrap round bamboo bar didn’t last long in our booth. It has such cool simplicity too it.

This aqua bar was so awesome. We drove all the way to Fresno to get it. Now it is in someones home being enjoyed!

This is just a swanky 70’s bar. It’s now sold.

This tiki bar has already sold. We think it might have been a Paul Frankl, but we could not substantiate it’s pedigree.

This Tiki bar is currently in the process of being restored and will be in our shop sometime soon.

This is the first bar we ever bought and restored. We purchased this one in the early 2000’s (sorry for quality of picture).

Of course our beloved and rare Witco Tahiti Bar that we will be buried with, ha ha. We think a bar is a necessary piece to have in a home for entertaining. We think society needs more reasons to socialize with neighbors and friends, and what a better way to do it than sipping a drink at your own bar.

Dee Mfg. Corp. Bar Stools Revamp

Mel and I have been scouring the internet to find stools for our kitchen counter. We had a heck of a time finding something that was appropriate for our decor. We finally found a set of Dee Mfg. stools on eBay that we thought would look great. When they arrived the bases and cushions were separate and there was no hardware!

When these arrived they were pretty farm fresh. The cushions are in great shape with some character. The metal frames had a lot of surface rust.

The cushions are a light pink with black, gray and chartreuse accents.

Each of the stools still had the Dee Mfg. Corp. tags.

crusty and rusty but not for long…

When sanding pieces like this I like to use a foam sanding block. It allows you to get a in all those tough areas.

Here is one base done compared to one of the unrestored bases.

Here they are all painted and set out to dry. Once they dried I attached the bases and cushions with self tapping screws.

We really like the way these turned out. They are simple, but the upholstery is what makes these stools.

They look right at home in our kitchen.

Here Are Some Quick Picks

These chairs belonged to the grandfather of the guy I purchased them from. He had them in his man cave. The upholstery job leaves something to be desired. I plan to remove the back rests (they are not original) and redo the seat bottoms in a different color. I tried to find info on the manufacturer but was unsuccessful.

I came across these on Craigslist and knew I wanted them. I love the style of the metal backrests.

There is a lot of surface rust, but a little sand paper and paint will fix that.

I need to figure out where to get new feet for a couple of the stools.

I have seen this style in a table and chair form, but this is the first time I have seen the style in barstool form! I think we will replace the stools that we are currently using with our…..

We purchased this bar a while back and love it. I think I may have blogged about it before, but cant find the post!

Here is the back of it. It has holders for glasses and bottles that lay down when the bar is folded into a coffee table!

Here is what the bar looks like when folded into a coffee table. Such a cool design by the ABCO company!

Here it is all the way folded down. This could slide under a bed for quick and easy storage. This is going under a covered patio of our next place for entertaining.

We picked this up for a quick $40 off of Craigslist as well. It needs some restoring but that will be easy. We have 2 of the pink and 1 brown versions of this lamp, so we thought aqua would be a nice contrast.

I picked this lamp up at one of our local haunts. The lampshade is one we had sitting around. This will go into our booth for resale.

These lamps are our friend Stephen’s. They require repair so we traded for the magazine holder below.

These lamps have damage around the switch but that shouldn’t be too hard to fix. The lampshades for these lamps are in fantastic shape. Stephen is going to throw them on eBay once the repairs are done. These have no maker listed.

Here is a nice jadite set that will be goin’ in the booth.

Thinking I would like to be more proactive in the repair of our radios. I picked up this working Conar model 224 tube tester for $15. In a later post I plan to recover this unit with new stag material.

It appears you can test radio and television tubes. I have never used one of these units, so I hope its self explanatory.

Here is a mauve frieze couch we recently picked up. It is in surprisingly great shape for its age.

I can imagine this in our home with a couple of Heywood Wakefield end tables on each side and a cool looking Carlo above it. We are torn if we will keep it or put it in our booth.
