Carlo Frame Restoration

Mel and I won these small Carlo of Hollywood frames on eBay and I planned to restore them. They were scraped up and had paint loss. These are the smallest of the forced perspective frames. The frames did not come with artwork so I’m still trying to decide what I am going to do with them.

Here are the frames as we got them. They smelled and were stained by smoke residue.

Ahhhh, the warm glow of a nicotine stain.

The first step was to apply the “Klean-Strip” stripper to remove the years of dirt buildup and old paint.

Once the paint bubbled up I wiped off the paint to reveal the wood grain.

After I stripped it I sanded it and then applied a dark walnut stain.

I then applied the spray polyurethane and let it dry.

They are done!

Overall I like the way they turned out.
